  Have you ever seen embroidery on a baseball cap where the stitching is raised up? I mean the embroidery is literally coming off of the cap. Ever wondered how that was done or what you call that style? There are two innovative techniques that can be used to create this effect. There is layered 3D embroidery and puff 3D embroidery. The first technique that is used to create the 3D effect is done by doubling the stitch count. By doubling the stitch count of your design you can add depth to your design. The result is that the stitching will be raised above the surface of the cap, backpack etc... Traditional flat embroidery is best if your design has a lot of intricate detail. This layered style of embroidery will allow you to give depth to designs that are too detailed for puff embroidery. The second style of embroidery is done by using foam underneath the stitching. This really makes the embroidery jump off of the cap. We have to increase the stitch count with this style also to make sure the foam under the stitching does not show. The puff style works best with large block style letters or images. This style is most commonly seen on baseball caps and other hat styles but it can be applied to jackets that are made of a thicker material. Puff embroidery is good to put on thicker items that will be washed periodically. If you really want your logo to stand out then you will want to go with puff embroidery.  The logo above has a combination of the layered and puff embroidery so you can see the difference. The "DI" was done with foam underneath and as you can see it really stands out. The black inside the leaves was done with the layered technique and has more depth than the traditional grey stitching that outlines the leaves.
